That tells you what kind of day it is before you read a word of the text. Nothing has to be downloaded and nothing asks who you are.<\/p>\n<p>    <span class=\"bf-step-gate\">Nothing is required of you here<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"bf-step\">\n<h3>You meet the propers<\/h3>\n<p>These are the parts that change with the day &mdash; the opening antiphon, the prayer, the readings, the closing prayers. Latin sits on one side and English on the other. Reading only the English column is a complete way of doing this, not a lesser one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bf-step\">\n<h3>It gets long in the middle<\/h3>\n<p>A full day&#8217;s text can run to a few thousand words. Most people slow down, skim a section, and land somewhere that catches them. That is what the text is for. Nobody reads every line of it every day, including clergy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bf-step\">\n<h3>You stop<\/h3>\n<p>At the end, or in the middle, or after two paragraphs. There is no completion to record and no streak to lose. It is genuinely pleasant to own and it makes the shape of the year easier to see. It is also entirely optional, and this church sells nothing and takes no commission on anything you might buy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bf-p\">On standing, sitting, and kneeling: in a church building the congregation moves with the rite, and there are printed guides to when. Reading at home, none of that applies. If you want the postures, the English column marks the moments; if you don&#8217;t, the text reads perfectly well from a chair.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bf-p\">If you want to know how to follow the Latin Mass more closely over time, the pattern learns itself. The Latin is printed because the rite is Latin and hiding that would be dishonest, not because you are expected to work through it. If kneeling helps you, kneel.
