Campuses and organizations · Bloom Swap
A swap where people already gather. Student unions, clinics, community rooms.
A Bloom Swap can run anywhere with a room, a weekend and a door people already walk through. Campus groups, clinics and practices, community centers and libraries can host one. Bloom brings the clothing, the racks and the playbook, delivers the day before and takes everything away the day after.
Who hosts
Who hosts a campus clothing swap event, and who else can.
Four kinds of space suit a swap. Each already has people coming through its door.
Campus groups
A student group or student union with a room it can book. A Bloom Rising chapter hosting a swap is the model case: the chapter brings the room and the people, Bloom brings everything else.
Clinics and practices
A practice whose clients are the people a swap is for. The first Bloom Swap was hosted by an electrology practice in Tigard.
Community centers
A room that already holds meetings and meals, with a door the neighborhood knows.
Libraries
A public room, where the library’s own policy allows an event of this kind. Bloom works within its rules.
What these places share is that nobody has to make a special trip to a strange building. A student passes the union every day; a client already knows the clinic’s waiting room. A swap in a familiar place is a swap more people will walk into.
Rooms with rules
What differs from a congregation. Booking, security, hours.
An organization’s room usually comes with procedures a parish hall does not. Each one needs to be known early.
Room booking. Campus and public rooms are booked through a system, often with forms and often well ahead. Swap dates are set at least sixty days out in any case, so start the booking when you write to Bloom, not after.
Security and access. Some buildings need a key card, a staffed front desk or an event registration. Tell Bloom what yours asks for, because a guest should never have to show ID or give a name to reach the racks. If a building cannot be entered without either, it cannot host a swap as it stands, and Bloom will say so.
Building hours. A clinic or a library may only be free when it is closed to its usual public, and a campus building may lock at a set time. Delivery is the day before and removal the day after, so Bloom needs access on those days as well as the swap weekend.
Your own event rules. Many institutions ask for event insurance, a named organizer or a risk form. Bloom will carry event coverage before the first Bloom-run swap.Tell us what your office asks for, early.
The campus crossing
Bloom Rising chapters can host.
Bloom Rising is the advocacy and campus organizing program of Bloom Ministries. A chapter hosting a swap is the model for a campus.
A chapter already has what a swap needs on a campus: a room it can book, members who can greet and sort, and a reason to be seen doing something concrete. A swap gives a chapter a weekend that serves people without asking them to join anything.
Read about Bloom Rising on the main site. A student group does not have to be a Bloom Rising chapter to host; any group with a room and a weekend may ask.
The two columns
The same model, wherever it runs.
What Bloom takes on and what you provide are the same for an organization as for a congregation.
Bloom takes on
- Owning and storing the clothing
- Sorting and laundering it, with volunteer sort days
- Delivering the day before and removing the day after
- The playbook, the signage and the intake sheets
You provide
- A room and a weekend
- Dates set together at least sixty days ahead
- A contact who answers email
- Your own premises coverage
The host playbook sets out the sixty days, the room plan and the conduct rules in full.
FAQ
Questions organizations ask
Still asking? Write to swap@bloomministries.org and a person answers.
Does our student group have to be a Bloom Rising chapter?
No. A chapter hosting a swap is the model case, and any student group or union with a room and a weekend may ask.
Our building needs ID to enter. Can we still host?
Only if guests can reach the swap without showing ID or giving a name. Some buildings can open one entrance and one room for an event; tell us how yours works and we will look at it with you.
What if our institution requires event insurance?
What does hosting cost?
Nothing. Bloom supplies the clothing, racks, signage and van. Nothing at a Bloom Swap has a fee, for guests or for hosts.
Can we run a clothing drive instead?
Yes. Clothing drives explains how; choose “Run a clothing drive” on the host form.

The room, the city, when you could host. The Chancery replies within two business days, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to the playbook.
