Grief

Death, and also the losses that rarely get called grief: a body that changed, a future that closed, a version of yourself you had to set down.

Who It Is For

Including the griefs nobody sent a card for.

Bereavement, certainly. But also disenfranchised grief — the kind that gets no funeral and no acknowledgment. Losing a family that is still alive. Losing capacity, mobility, or a career to illness. Grieving a childhood you did not get to have as yourself. Losing a community when you came out, or when you left a church.

Our people carry a great deal of grief that mainstream grief support is not built to name. A group where you have to first explain why something counts as a loss is not a group you can grieve in.

There is no timeline here and no stages to progress through. Grief that arrived twenty years ago is welcome in the same room as grief from last week.

If grief has become crisis

Peer support is not clinical treatment. If you are struggling to stay safe, Crisis Support and 988 both move faster than this.
