HOLY ORDERS

The door is open. The gates are real.

Holy orders in this church are open to every baptized person found fit, regardless of sex, gender identity, or gender history. Discerning holy orders here means a long conversation and a set of requirements that are not waived for anyone. This page is the parish-facing account; the canonical detail lives with the Chancery.

On who may be ordained

Holy orders are open to every baptized person found fit, regardless of sex, gender identity, or gender history; celibacy is not a condition of orders. The grounds are Galatians 3:28, Phoebe named as deacon at Romans 16:1, the development visible in the Church’s own history, and conscience. Rome holds otherwise, and this church states that plainly rather than blurring it.

WHERE THIS CHURCH ACTUALLY IS

No ordinations have yet occurred.

That is a fact about a young church and it is stated without apology. The Church of Bloom was erected 17 October 2025 under the patronage of St. Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles, and it has published daily worship without a break since 17 October 2025. It has twelve canonical instruments on file. It has not yet ordained anyone.

Related facts the Chancery does not hide: no insurance is in force, the Board sits at two of a self-imposed three, and there is no canonist and no nonprofit attorney reviewer. Anyone discerning holy orders here should know all of that before the first conversation rather than after the third.

The gates, and their state.

Background check

A criminal background check is required of every candidate and every person with access to minors or vulnerable adults. It is not dispensable, including by the Ordinary.

Non-dispensable

Safe Environment training

Completed before any ministry involving other people, and renewed. Certificates are held by the Chancery.

Held on file

Mandatory Reporter training

Oregon clergy are mandatory reporters under ORS 419B.010. Training is required and the reporting duty is non-dispensable even by the Ordinary.

Non-dispensable

Formation record

Study, supervised practice, and spiritual direction, recorded candidate by candidate. Formation records are confidential to the candidate and the Ordinary.

Sealed

Ordinations celebrated

The register of ordinations exists, is bound, and is empty. When that changes it will be recorded here and not before.

None to date

You ask

Write to the Chancery and say what you think is happening to you. Vagueness is fine; most vocations start as an itch rather than a certainty.

A first conversation

With the Ordinary, about your history, your health, your capacity, and what you actually want. Nothing is decided in it.

Screening

Background check and Safe Environment and Mandatory Reporter training, before any ministry involving other people begins.

Required — not waivable

Formation

Study, supervised practice, and direction over years rather than months. Paced to a working adult’s life, not to a seminary calendar.

Examination

A formal examination before the Chancery. Fitness is a finding to be made, and it can be found absent.

Required — not waivable
Yes. Orders are open to every baptized person found fit regardless of sex, gender identity, or gender history, and celibacy is not a condition. Rome holds otherwise; this church does not pretend that disagreement away.
No. The Church of Bloom is Independent Catholic, is not in communion with Rome, and claims no Roman faculties, jurisdiction, or recognition of its orders. Anyone discerning holy orders here should weigh that honestly before beginning.
No ordinations have yet occurred. The registers are bound and ready and empty, and that will be recorded accurately when it changes.
No, for anyone, ever. The abuse reporting duty and the screening requirements are non-dispensable even by the Ordinary, and that is written into the canonical instruments rather than left to discretion.
Years, not months, and it is paced to a working adult’s life. The examination comes at the end of that and fitness can be found absent.
At the Chancery’s clergy page, which sets out orders, incardination, and discipline in canonical terms rather than pastoral ones.
