The Reading
I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.
Isaiah 56:5
The Reflection
Sit with the tense of the promise. Not “I will tolerate them,” not “I will make an exception.” I will give them a name — to the eunuchs, the gender-variant of their age, the very people statute had barred from the assembly. The prophet does not open a side door; he announces a superlative: a name better than sons and daughters, everlasting, uncuttable.
If you have taken a true name — or are circling one in the dark, saying it only to the mirror — this verse is your ancestor. The tradition’s own pages record God as a giver of better names to exactly your kind of person. Whoever told you your name was a rebellion against scripture had skipped this shelf. Scripture, on the record, is where the renaming starts. (The full argument, with sources, lives in the Reclaiming Library.)
A Line to Carry
An everlasting name, not cut off — and not cut short.
The Holding
Carry your name through this day like the gift the prophet says it is. Spoken or still secret, it is already written where nothing can cut it. You are held — by name. Amen.
